Trying to get things done while you have kids running around with nothing to do is very challenging. With boredom comes the need to follow your every move, and when you are trying to get things done it can be too much. When you are a mom who works from home, there are days where you will have projects due and you will need to find ways to distract the little ones. We have compiled a list of 10 creative ways for you to distract you children, at least just until you get your work done.
Distracting Them While Working From Home
Have you ever tried to complete a SKYPE interview while your little ones are tugging at your skirt or dress. It can look unprofessional and make you seem as if you cannot organize yourself enough to have a separate workspace. Keep your little ones busy while you work, so that you can focus.
Create “busy bags” According To Their Ages
Pinterest is heaven sent for busy moms, there are a lot of great tips for fun activities that you can compile to keep your children occupied. Busy bags are fantastic and there is an abundance of busy bags ideas on pinterest, and many, according to your children’s ages. The educational ones are especially awesome to prepare your younger children for school. You can create them by themes such as Alphabet or Number busy bags.
Art Station
The great thing about the Art Station is that you never have to take it apart. Simply designate a corner in the family room or a bedroom, and set up a desk and chair for your child. Keep some crayons, markers, paper close by for easy access and there you go. You have created a great art corner to keep your child organized, if you have more than one child, create a corner for each one to avoid arguments.
Make Puppets For a 15 min Puppet Show
Puppets are fun and easy. It gives the children creative freedom, and why not utilize the art station to work on the puppets. They can choose to make animals, cartoon characters, and so much more. A fun little show, will help them have fun, play together if they have siblings and help them work on conversational skills. These fun DIY puppets are a great option if you have time to make the puppets with them.
Have Them Work Beside You
I allow my kids to do their homework next to me when they come home from work. You can also allow they young ones to sit close by with a toy computer and work on their letters and numbers while you work. It allows them to feel close to you, and feel as if they are doing something as important as mother.
Enlist Help and Make it a Game
How about making cleaning the floor a race? Have the kids swiffer mop the floor and see who finished first. You get two things done, the floor cleaned, and occupied kids. Have the kids see who can make their beds the neatest and who can clean their toys up faster after they finish playing with toys.
Beading
Who hasn’t played with beads? Beading is an activity that both boys and girls can enjoy. It is fun and they are left with something cool to wear afterwards.
Create a Maze Using Tape
Take the maze from the paper to the floor by creating a real life maze for the kids to play with. If you have a lot of space to work with, you can make it challenging for them, meaning they will spend more time solving the maze, giving you more time to work. How about pretending that they are surrounded by lava and staying on the line of the tape only. Get creative.
Create a DIY Atmosphere
I recently heard a 14 year old girls say that in her home, if they don’t have it they make it. I loved that idea, it can be hard when you are a busy mom, but why not encourage your kids to have a diy attitude? It will encourage them to be more self efficient, and they will come up with their own project ideas, saving you more time.
Have a Beach Day in the House
Designate a small easy to clean area of the house and allow them to play with beach balls, build castles with play dough instead of sand to keep it from getting to messy.
